Why Play Inbetween?

Studies show that to become thoughtful, creative adults, kids need time simply to be kids.  Kids benefit from having more time to design their own games, build their own spaces, and imagine their own fantasy worlds.

At its very essence, Play
Inbetween is a place for children to have fun in an environment that they themselves create.  These unique pocket parks demonstrate the important, symbiotic relationship between play and art.

Unlike a traditional playground, a Play Inbetween pocket park encourages independent and creative play by supplying tools with minimal direction for kids to develop many of the skills and attributes they will need as adults. These include:

  • Sharing and cooperation
  • Problem solving
  • Effective communication
  • Attention to detail
  • Physical dexterity and fitness

Play Inbetween's goal is to fill Philadelphia's underutilized spaces with these creative and contemporary pocket parks.  Whether the space is an empty lot, an area between two buildings or underneath a bridge, with creativity and imagination, any of these locations can be made into a Play Inbetween pocket park.
